Overview

The Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd gen, released 2021) is a $249.99 smart display that stands out from every other smart display on the market thanks to its motorized base, which rotates the 10.1-inch 1280x800 display up to 350 degrees to follow you around the room. Powered by a MediaTek MT8183 processor with a built-in Zigbee smart home hub, it combines a premium speaker system (dual 1-inch tweeters plus a 3-inch woofer) with a 13MP auto-framing camera for video calls. Unlike the Google Nest Hub Max or Facebook Portal, the Echo Show 10 physically moves rather than digitally panning - a genuinely useful innovation for cooking, working, or moving around while staying on a video call. It is important to note that this device works exclusively with Amazon Alexa and does NOT support Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit.

Design & Build

The Echo Show 10 consists of two distinct parts: a barrel-shaped base measuring 6.7 inches (170 mm) in diameter covered in grille cloth, and a 9.9 x 9-inch (251 x 229 mm) display panel mounted on a short arm. The display can tilt 40 degrees manually, while the motorized base rotates a full 350 degrees via a brushless DC motor - completely silent in operation. The screen portion uses a plastic body similar to an Amazon Fire tablet. Above the display sits a 13MP camera alongside a microphone array. A physical privacy switch slides a shutter over the camera lens, and a dedicated mic/camera button electronically disables the microphones - offering both mechanical and electronic privacy controls. Volume buttons sit on the top edge. The total device weight is approximately 4.4 lbs (2.0 kg). It is available in Charcoal and Glacier White color options.

Performance

The motorized base is the Echo Show 10’s defining feature. It uses a combination of audio beamforming and camera-based visual tracking to lock onto you and follow you across the room. In testing by PCMag and Tom’s Guide, the tracking proved accurate and the brushless motor remained completely silent - no buzzing or whining during rotation. However, the tracking can occasionally overshoot or feel awkward when you are very close to the device or reach toward the screen with your right hand (blocking the camera’s view). Vertical tilt must be adjusted manually, and the tracking does not work in very dark rooms.

Audio performance is a highlight. The dual 1-inch tweeters and 3-inch woofer deliver room-filling sound that rivals the larger Echo Studio in clarity, though bass-heavy tracks at maximum volume can introduce some distortion on kick drums. The sound signature leans toward the high-mids, with crisp vocals and detailed treble. It is a significant step up from the Echo Show 8’s dual 2-inch drivers.

The 13MP camera with auto-framing keeps you centered during video calls, but the MediaTek MT8183 processor feels underpowered - menu navigation has noticeable lag compared to modern tablets, and app loading is noticeably slower than on the Echo Show 15. The built-in Zigbee hub eliminates the need for a separate Amazon Echo or Zigbee bridge for compatible smart home devices like lights, locks, and sensors. Wi-Fi is limited to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) with Bluetooth 5.0; there is no Wi-Fi 6 or 3.5mm audio jack.

Features

Smart Integration: The Echo Show 10 works exclusively with Amazon Alexa for voice control. It can control smart home devices from Arlo, Ring, iRobot, TP-Link, Kwikset, and thousands of other brands. The built-in Zigbee hub pairs directly with compatible devices without needing a separate bridge. Alexa Guard monitors for smoke alarms and glass-breaking sounds, and sends alerts when you are away. Alexa Guard Plus ($4.99/month or $49/year) adds emergency helpline access and camera-based motion alerts. The device supports Amazon Sidewalk for extended network range. Drop In allows instant video calls to other Echo devices. Not compatible with Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit.

Pros

  • Motorized screen rotates 350 degrees to follow you - a unique feature no competitor matches
  • Excellent audio quality from dual 1-inch tweeters and 3-inch woofer
  • Built-in Zigbee hub eliminates need for separate smart home bridge
  • Physical camera shutter and mic/camera button for dual-layer privacy
  • 13MP camera with auto-framing for sharp video calls

Cons

  • MediaTek MT8183 processor causes noticeable UI lag
  • Alexa-only - no Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit support at all
  • Wi-Fi 5 (no Wi-Fi 6) and no 3.5mm audio jack
  • Motion tracking struggles in dark rooms and with close-proximity touch interaction
  • At $249.99, it costs nearly double the Echo Show 8 ($129.99)

Verdict

The Amazon Echo Show 10 earns a 9.0/10 by delivering the most innovative smart display design on the market. Its motorized, rotating screen is a genuine usability breakthrough that no competitor - not the Google Nest Hub Max ($229.99) or Facebook Portal - can match. The audio quality, Zigbee hub integration, and privacy controls further strengthen its position. However, it is exclusively an Alexa device, so households invested in Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit should look elsewhere. The underpowered processor and lack of Wi-Fi 6 are notable omissions at this price point. If you are building an Alexa-centric smart home and want the best smart display experience, the Echo Show 10 is the clear choice.

How We Rate Products

Every product on ComfyTechCheck is scored on a 1 to 10 scale based on a structured evaluation framework. We assess products across five core criteria:

  • Performance (30% weight): Speed, responsiveness, and real-world capability in its category.
  • Build & Design (20% weight): Material quality, ergonomics, and aesthetic appeal.
  • Features (20% weight): Breadth and usefulness of included functionality.
  • Value (20% weight): Price-to-performance ratio relative to direct competitors.
  • Battery Life or Reliability (10% weight): Endurance testing for portable devices, or long-term dependability for stationary gear.

Scores are assigned by our editorial team after hands-on testing or extensive research using verified user reports, expert analysis, and technical specifications. The weighted average produces the final rating you see on each review. This methodology is inspired by established consumer review standards from organizations such as Consumer Reports and Which?, adapted for the tech product categories we cover.
